More about teacher evaluation

Research shows that direct vocabulary instruction will increase background knowledge especially for ELL's,

you can raise test scores by 10 to 20 points by teaching vocabulary that appears often in test questions.

There's a set of ebooks at the link below that pulled the words out of standards and benchmarks from tests all over

the country, it has lists but also graphic organizers and information on teaching vocabulary in interesting ways.

Getting worried

I've been following teaching websites in New York to see how the state is going to handle teacher evaluation.

Here's an article that union leaders point to:

and here's what is said about the protest under way by some Principals in the state

and to see what the plan is for New York State's teacher evaluation system

kind of scary, I'm glad I'm getting close to retirement

Technology in the classroom

I found a place where some of the newest technologies for classrooms are critiqued and described:

Technology Ipads or Iphones?

For teachers, the new technology being touted now is Ipads or other tablet PC's to help us keep

track of student performance. Companies are lining up to provide software and apps for those

devices. Here's some information about thathttp://www.nea.org/home/41992.htm
